Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster

By Reece Smith

The Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster attraction is a ride that is in Hollywood Studios and it stars Aerosmith that arrived on July 29th, 1999 so 10 years after the park opened. Obviously by its title it’s a roller coaster where it’s about Aerosmith getting you to their concert through all the traffic in Hollywood.  It includes inversions and is the only one currently in Walt Disney World that does so. Also it’s one of the many rides that has a fastpass line for those people who get a fastpass. Additionally it also has a single rider line for those who want to get into that line it sometimes is faster but it's unknown if you’ll get on as soon as you get through or not.

This ride has a pre show where you see the group Aerosmith with their manager finishing a recording for a song in a recording studio decked out with all sorts of equipment. The band and the manager have dialogue as though they see you standing there and “interact” with you.  They’re told that they’re late to a concert across town and traffic is backed up way too much. They invite you to come along and even offer backstage passes.

You walk through an area that looks like a street or alley similar to where famous people are portrayed as waiting for their limo.  You ride in an extra large stretch limo with a head restraint coming from above so that during the three inversions you don’t fall out.  You need to look forward to avoid hurting your neck and to get the best view.  Also you accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in about 3 seconds as you go through your first loop. Also on this ride you get your photo taken at the beginning when you get shot at a very fast accelerated rate of 21.4 mph per second.  Your expression can be a priceless memory.

The extended limo that you're in is decked out with 125 speakers, 24 subwoofers, and a 32,000-watt audio system--it’s just like being at a concert. Each vehicle projects a different hit Aerosmith song so each time you ride it could be a different song. Those songs are “Walk this Way”, “Dude(Looks Like a Lady)”, “Sweet Emotion”, “Back in the Saddle”, and “Love in an Elevator” rewritten as “Love in a Roller Coaster”. As you hear this music you’ll zip past iconic Hollywood landmarks such as lots of palm trees, the Hollywood sign, California’s highway 101, and more all in neon lights as you go through 2 loops and a corkscrew.

Since there’s inversions there’s a height requirement of being at least 48’ inches tall or 4 feet tall. The whole ride lasts for about 90 seconds from when you get in and the limo first moves and ends when you arrive at the concert where they have a screen showing Aerosmith on stage. At the end there’s a gift shop where you can buy items related to the ride as well as your photo.
