Journey into Imagination with Figment

Journey into Imagination is an attraction in EPCOT that is a very relaxing ride through the Imagination Institute where Dr. Nigel will take you through his open house on how the five senses help build your imagination. It all starts with the sound lab, the first of five senses labs that Dr. Nigel’s open house has to offer. In the sound lab you start to talk about hearing in your right and left ears. Then Figment makes the noise goes wild and says that you are not supposed to listen with your ears but with your imagination such as hearing a single sound and then having different ideas on what it could be we only identify what a sound is after knowing what it is otherwise we could guess all day and never be correct.
In the sight lab you’ll see an eye test that you’ve probably done before where a nurse or worker has asked you to cover one eye and then repeat row after row of letters until you can’t anymore and from that they can tell how good your vision is. 20/20 is the most common and also a good vision to have it means that things most people can see at 20 feet you can as well. So Dr. Nigel asks you to read line three of the eye chart and before you can continue Figment interrupts and says that “yeah you can see with your eyes but imagine what you can see with your imagination.”
Then you get to go to the smell lab where Dr. Nigel talks about how certain smells can trigger your imagination, especially pleasant smells that you're familiar with like your favorite food or roses. Then Figment appears and spins a wheel landing on a skunk and you get sprayed with the smell which usually isn’t appealing to people. So then you head around a corner and Dr. Nigel talks about how after the fiasco in the smell lab he’s hesitant on sending you through the touch and taste labs.
So then Figment is like okay if you’re done with your open house lets go to my open house. So then you go through Figments upside down house and then Figment and Dr. Nigel exchange a few words and Figment is like “The greatest open house is the imagination.” So then you head back to the Institute. Then they talk about how imagination works best when it is set free and not constrained to what you can see, smell, hear, touch, or taste in front of you. That may be just why we all enjoy reading books, or watching movies and TV shows about anything but what we have now even Non-fiction about someone else’s life or experiences in life.
After the ride there’s an area in the back where you can mess around with all kinds of stuff such as a touch keyboard on the floor, an instrumental figment area based on your movements and more. Also the Pyramidal building where the ride is holds the DVC lounge for Disney Vacation Club members at the top which is a nice place to relax or get out of the rain for DVC members.
